How we handle AC repair.

When your AC stops working, the first thing to figure out is whether it's a quick fix or something bigger. We charge $79 flat to come out and diagnose, period. Once we know what's wrong, we share the flat-rate repair price from the same list that's on our pricing page. You decide whether to approve it. No high-pressure.

We check the manufacturer warranty on every call, even for units we didn't install. If your compressor is still covered, we'll tell you — and we'll coordinate with the manufacturer instead of charging you full price.

If the repair makes financial sense, we fix it and you move on. If a 15-year-old unit is better replaced than patched for the third time, we'll tell you that too, and give you an honest replacement quote with no pressure to decide on the spot.

AC issues we fix most often.

  • AC running but not cooling (low refrigerant, frozen coil, dirty coil)
  • AC making a humming or clicking noise but not starting (bad capacitor, stuck contactor)
  • Outdoor unit not turning on (tripped breaker, bad contactor, failed motor)
  • Warm air from vents (bad compressor, blocked airflow, low refrigerant)
  • Water leaking indoors (clogged condensate drain, frozen coil melting)
  • AC short-cycling (oversized unit, dirty filter, low refrigerant, faulty thermostat)
  • High electric bills (dirty coil, failing capacitor, worn compressor)
  • Strange smells when running (mold in coil, burnt wiring)

What AC repair customers say.

“We initially used a different local company to fix an issue with our AC, and they were more set on selling us a whole new system rather than fixing the problem. We called Sycamore to get a second opinion, and they fixed our problem at half the price of the other company, and they did not try to sell us a new system.”
Chuck Meadors
“Aaron at Sycamore Heating & Cooling is simply the best. We have had an issue with our unit freezing. Every time he takes the time to explain what’s going on with our unit and his pricing is fair. He really cares to do the job right.”
Jungsoo Yoon
“Their technician, CJ, came and repaired our AC condenser drain pan and did a fantastic job. Definitely will be recommending this company to anyone needing an honest, reputable, and swift HVAC company.”

AC repair FAQ.

How much does AC repair cost in Cincinnati?

Our service call is $79 flat — that covers diagnosis. Common repairs are at posted flat-rate pricing: dual capacitor $135, outdoor fan motor $495, R-410A refrigerant $72/lb. You see the price before we do any work.

Is it worth repairing an old AC or should I replace it?

It depends on the unit's age, the cost of the repair, and the refrigerant type. A 15-year-old R-22 unit with a refrigerant leak is usually not worth repairing (R-22 runs $196/lb). A 10-year-old R-410A unit with a $135 capacitor is an easy fix. We give you the honest math, not a sales pitch.

Do you repair AC units you didn't install?

Yes, any brand. We always check the manufacturer warranty first, even on units installed by other companies. Sometimes the part is covered and you only pay labor.

Can you come out same-day?

In most cases yes, especially during Cincinnati heat waves when AC calls pile up. If it's an emergency (elderly, infant, or pet in the home with no cooling), we prioritize. Call (513) 260-4026.
