How we handle furnace repair.

Most furnace breakdowns in Cincinnati are one of five or six common issues — ignitor, flame sensor, inducer, thermostat, limit switch, or pressure switch. We carry the parts for all of them on the truck. Once we diagnose, we share the flat-rate repair price, and only do the work after you approve it.

We always check the manufacturer warranty first. If the part is covered, you don't pay for it, whether we installed the furnace or not. We'll coordinate with the manufacturer on your behalf.

If the repair doesn't make financial sense on an old unit, we say so. We'd rather lose the repair call than sell you a bad fix on a system that's going to break again next month.

Furnace issues we fix most often.

  • Furnace won't ignite (bad hot surface ignitor, failed flame sensor, pilot issue)
  • Furnace turns on but no warm air (blower motor, limit switch, dirty filter)
  • Furnace short-cycling (flame sensor, bad thermostat, overheating)
  • Loud banging or rattling sounds (dirty burner, cracked heat exchanger, blower issue)
  • Burning smell or carbon monoxide alarm (dust burn-off or cracked exchanger — serious)
  • Furnace running constantly (thermostat miscalibration, bad fan limit, sized wrong)
  • High gas bills (inefficient burn, dirty burner, oversized system)
  • Yellow or flickering flame instead of blue (incomplete combustion — call us immediately)

What furnace repair customers say.

“We first chose Sycamore because we are supporters of local, small businesses. What has kept us coming back was not only Aaron’s knowledge of his trade, but his level of professionalism, integrity, and responsiveness. Our A/C stopped working, so it had to be replaced. In doing my due diligence I contacted a competitor. Their price was staggeringly higher. I’m a realtor and have dealt with many HVAC contractors, and in 16 years, NONE can compare! My only regret, I can only give him five stars.”

“Coldest night of this winter so far and our furnace went out. Called Aaron and he came within 10 minutes. Quickly identified that the igniter is bad, got a replacement and put in. We have heating again. He could over charge me because I was in desperation. But he did not. It is rare to find honest business owner nowadays.”
Brad Leopold
“We just moved to the area and our furnace wouldn’t start. Had another company out. They replaced our thermostat and said that we would need a new board, a new motor, and maybe a new gas valve too. At that point we are halfway to a new system. Our neighbor referred us to Aaron. One hour of work and a new gas valve later we are ready for winter.”

Furnace repair FAQ.

My furnace went out in the middle of the night. Are you open?

Yes — 24/7. The phone rings through to the owner or a team member any hour. No call center. Same $79 service call at 2am as at 2pm, no overtime charge.

How much does furnace repair cost?

Service call is $79 flat. The most common winter fix, a hot surface ignitor, is $185 installed. Flame sensor cleaning is often included in the service call. We share the flat-rate repair price before any work starts.

Is my furnace safe to keep running?

If you smell gas, don't run it — get out and call the gas company. If your carbon monoxide alarm is going off, shut off the furnace and call us. For most other issues (short cycling, odd noises, no heat) it's fine to leave it off until we arrive.

My furnace is 15+ years old. Should I repair or replace?

Depends on the repair. A $185 ignitor on a 15-year-old unit is absolutely worth it. A $1,200 inducer motor plus a $500 control board on the same unit probably isn't. We'll give you both numbers and let you decide.

No heat? We're awake.
